SINGAPORE, Dec. 22, 2011
Rune, an information security firm committed to empowering the defense of privacy, today announced that John Haggard has been appointed to its Board of Advisors. Mr. Haggard brings to Rune an extensive background in the information security sector. He is a pioneer in the design, development, and delivery of advanced state-of-the-art information security products in many different areas that include international, corporate, government, and educational institutions for over 25 years.
Lance Gaines, Rune's President and CTO, said, "We are very pleased to have an industry veteran like John agree to participate on our Board of Advisors. He brings great ethics and technical acumen, which will help guide Rune through its next stage of development. When analyzing anything technical, John delivers a great depth of experience bringing to bear his many years as a technologist and senior executive. Thank you John for joining the team." Mr. Haggard added, "I have been in the cryptographic field for almost 30 years and finding a simple, universal, product (Deadbolt) that works for any data, within any application has been difficult, if not impossible. When the Rune team explained to me the Vernam Cipher was implemented in Deadbolt using modern cryptographic protocol standards, I immediately wanted more information. Use of One Time Pad (Vernam Cipher) guarantees unbreakable encryption; just Google Vernam Cipher and research from there. Simple and unbreakable rarely can be combined, and I verified they have accomplished the simple without compromise of integrity. I am honored and pleased Rune invited me to be an Advisor, allowing my experience to be added to their vision." Before Mr. Haggard joined the Board of Advisors, he was a member of an elite team in the mid 1980's that developed and deployed the world's first extended user authentication infrastructure for authentication beyond passwords. He has served as the ACF2 Development Manager for SKK. Inc., then as Product Owner of the Security, Control, and Audit division of CA until 1994. Since then he has led startup companies that focus on deploying biometrics and one time passwords that service international financial institutions. Mr. Haggard has also served as President, COO, and CTO of VASCO Data Security International, bringing that company into the market in 1994. Since 2000, he has served on the board of directors for numerous intellectual property companies in the field of advanced smart card technologies related to authentication and security. Mr. Haggard has a BS in Computer Science, from Northern Illinois University.
